Just a Quick Update

Islanders
I've been neglecting my poor LJ. Sorry. I've been busy, spending time on my other blogs, reading other people's blogs and LJs, proofreading the next self-published spy series I write with [info]jersey_lion and another friend, and rereading all the books in that series, because after a while, I forget the details of what we've written and need to refresh my memory to help with future stories. And I fall in love again with, well, our writing, but mainly with those characters who, after all these years (a dozen and counting for some of them), are so very real to me. I guess it's a good thing that I haven't gotten bored with them yet. The book will be printed when I visit [info]jersey_lion the first weekend in November, and after that, I'll get back to the WIR and the sequel. I do have to wait for the beta readers to report back, so I'll just fiddle with the science stuff til then.

Meanwhile, the Yankees were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs (insert big smiley grin here) and the Islanders beat the Rangers to start the hockey season 3 and 1, so all is good til pitchers and catchers report in February and once again, I'll have my Mets to follow. And it sure would be nice if the Isles can keep up the winning ways. It's about time they won their 5th Stanley Cup.

Glad to see you're back. I'm still getting used to the whole blogging thing. I just figured how to customize my communities in lj. BTW, our mutual friend has an lj now. You'll find her under wolfquill. No posts yet, just looking for friends.

Actually, I have been posting every week or so, sometimes more often. I missed a few days due to a dead router and then this past week due to proofing the next book, but this LJ is mostly friends-locked now, so you wouldn't see many of the posts. Sorry.

And yes, I know she has an LJ. We talked about it and I suspect our next call, we'll be talking about it some more. :)

I get that. I friends-locked most of my posts too.

Probably. It fun to play with shiny new toys!

I only leave the mostly innocuous posts public. Most of the posts re: my life and my writing projects are friends-locked. I left this one public because it really didn't say much. I mostly blog elsewhere, but this is a place to keep in touch with some real life friends and the writers I've met online through the rasfc newsgroup.

I've been on LJ 3 1/2 years now, so if you have any questions, just ask and I'll see if I can answer. And yes, it's fun to play with the new toys, which is why I tend to join every new service I discover, even if I don't stick with them. I just wish LJ let me add javascript here so I could incorporate more things into the sidebar, like a Twitter box. And I had to wait for Library Thing to create a non-script widget before I could add that. I understand why LJ doesn't want script, due to security issues, but I much prefer Blogger which does allow it.

I decided to friends-lock most of my posts because I didn't understand at the time exactly who could and couldn't read my posts. I like the idea of leaving messages about what's going on with my writing for my friends, but I don't necessarily want the entire world to know about it. LadyChris's real identity isn't exactly a secret, and it is how I'm mostly known out there in fandom, so I'm not inclined to give it up just yet.

Be careful of what you offer ;->

That's one thing that worries me. Here I am getting all comfy with lj, then a newer service starts and all my friends threaten to migrate. It happened when lj started deleting all the accounts thinking they were related to child porn or whatever. All my friends were saying they weren't feeling the lj love anymore and opened GreatestJournal accounts. Most of them have come back or never followed through, but still...

I just wish LJ let me add javascript here so I could incorporate more things into the sidebar, like a Twitter box.

Now you're getting into them thar fancy tech talk, LOL. I know a little about Twitter and LibraryThing from the library seminars I go to sometimes, but I can't see incorporating them into my life right now. The time just doesn't seem to be there. When did I get so damn busy?

I started friends locking posts because a few people I knew from AOL's writers boards were reading here and I didn't want them to see the posts about my writing projects. Some of them are real snoops and have Googled people and I don't want most of the posts here to be that searchable and public. I might at some point do friends filters so some friends see everything and some not, but I've been too lazy so far to bother and the public/friends locked combo is working for now.

A lot of people get sick of LJ when LJ fails to properly communicate when there's a glitch or a TOS issue. It's a lot of strum and dung, a lot of chest beating and angst and I don't pay any attention to it anymore. I have no intention of leaving LJ. I just paid for a permanent account! But I do try out other blogging services so I can review them and I do like trying other services, especially ones that work with blogs.

I use Twitter for some quick, short posts that I don't want to bother making a "real" post for. I have a Twitter widget on many of my blogs and on MyBlogLog, so folks can see these brief posts there. And I made a Twitter feed for two of my blogs, so the posts from them show up in my Twitter widget on some of my other blogs as well as on my Twitter page. It increases the visibility of those blogs.

As for Library Thing, it's a nice, simple way to share my home library.

It was Torre's fault. When they fire his ass, I'm going to celebrate. How any times does he need to be told to improve his pitching rotation?

Oh, I dunno. I think A-Rod was a bit at fault, too. Man never comes through when they really need him. ;)

Oh yeah, I'm going to the game tonight -- and the one tomorrow afternoon. It's not often that we get major series played here in Airy-Zona.

Mixed feelings here. I _want_ the Red Sucks to win the ACLS now because I _want_ to see the D'Backs kiss their asses.

Do you realize how hard it is for a Yankees fan to _want_ the Red Sucks to win?

I wouldn't know. I'm always rooting for the Red Socks to beat the Yankees.

Oh, and I should add I don't really care who wins this year. I'm actually not planning to watch the games.
