With so much blogging on my Friends List about Katrina and New Orleans and the other flooded areas, I feel I should explain why I haven't blogged about it here and won't be doing so. This is my blog about writing. While I might blog about things in my life here, mostly I refer to entries on my other blogs. It's commendable that so many people are passing on info re: donating to the Red Cross, etc. I do my own donating in private. I don't blog about it. And while it's important to get the word out, there are plenty of other folks who can do a better job of it than I can, and they already are.
I thought I should mention this in case anyone was starting to think I was heartless. It's a horrible mess down in the gulf area, I feel terrible that so many people died, might still die, or are suffering. And I fear we'll be seeing something like this again in the coming years, maybe more than once. Hurricane activity is increasing, more hurricanes per season and more powerful ones. There are other indications of global warming and changing weather patterns.
We all should do what we can and what our conscience dictates. Some of us do it publicly and some of us do it privately. Neither is right. Neither is best.
